University of Birmingham in numbers

This was something that I had originally intended for Redbrick but for various reasons it didn’t quite make it in. The idea was to give students a clearer sense of the size of the university in terms of population and spending as well as how the university is funded.

If memory serves (I compiled this a year ago now), the figures are mostly sourced from various university’s annual accounts, with additional statistics provided by ucas and university websites. Additionally some of the figures were calculated myself. For instance the University Expenditure per student per annum was found by dividing the University Expenditure per annum by the number of students for the most recent period.
